Friends of Summerhill

The long-term vision for Summerhill is to restore native forests, nurture wildlife, and create a beautiful, sustainable environment for the community to enjoy for generations to come in one of New Zealand's fastest-growing peri-urban areas.

Thanks to the incredible efforts of our volunteers, we’ve planted thousands of native species, successfully removed countless pest plants and hundreds of predators.

If you or your organisation would like to get involved or join our mailing list, reach out to us, we’d love to hear from you!

Predator Control Program

Summerhill is committed to eliminating predators from our forests to help restore native bird populations. To date our enthusiastic team of volunteers has removed nearly 500 introduced pest animals from our forests. If you're interested in joining our team and monitoring a trapline at Summerhill, make contact.

Community Planting Days

With warmer days on our doorstep, the spades have gone back into the shed and planting projects have wrapped up for 2024 and early 2025.  If you would like to help us restore Summerhill's native forests, help with native plant releasing or the removal of pest plants, stay in the loop by getting in touch.

Trail Maintenance

The trails at Summerhill are maintained by Mountainbike Tauranga, an active club that frequently hosts mountain biking events. One highlight is the action-packed Summer Series, featuring both junior and senior categories, held on Monday evenings during daylight saving time.
