Mountain Biking
With 30 km of trails, ranging from grade 3-5, there’s something for everyone at Summerhill! Perfect for beginner, intermediate or advanced riders, you’ll enjoy rolling to steep hill terrain amidst a diverse mix of native and exotic forests.
The Tauranga Mountain Bike Club, with the assistance of professional trail-builders, have installed many of the trails over the last 15 years. Under an agreement with the Trust, The Club must ensure all trails are built to national standards, are sign-posted and safely maintained. Please be aware that some of the trails are shared pathways, please give way to walkers and be considerate of other users.
Open 7 days a week from dawn until dusk, for your enjoyment; no booking required. Please check our news and events page for information on track and park closures.

Walking and Running
Summerhill has many kilometres of amazing scenic walking trails just waiting to be explored.
The various walking trails take in areas of pasture and forest walks, native bush and creek crossings.
From the car park, there is an easy ridgeline walk through pasture to the adjoining Papamoa Hills Regional Park. In this area you have the opportunity to visit a historic Maori Pa Site, and from the top of the hill you can really appreciate the absolute beauty of this amazing coastline and surrounding area.
If you have friends or family visiting from out of the area, this is the ideal location to bring them to. They will never want to go home!
Lambing and Calving season:
The recreation park is on a working sheep, cattle and forestry farm. During the lambing and calving seasons (August to September), we invite you to visit and walk the farm to enjoy all that Spring has to offer! During this time we ask that people are a little more careful around the animals, for yours and their safety.
Walking Conditions:
There are many walks at Summerhill that are conditioned for amblers, runners and persons of intermediate fitness. Some trails are shared with mountain bikers, so please be considerate. Please note that, at times, the trails can become slippery and care must be taken.
Trail Maintenance
Trails at Summerhill are maintained by the Tauranga Mountain Bike Club. This is an active Club that regularly puts on MTB events including an action-packed Summer Series (Junior & Senior) at Summerhill on Monday evenings during the daylight saving period.
